The City to Infinity

I was walking through Manhattan, but something was different. The streets had the right bones, but something was off. The avenues didn’t line up the way they should. Broadway curled like a serpent, and I kept passing the same bodega, the vendor watching me every time.

I pulled out my phone to see a blank screen. No map, no messages. It was as if the "phone" was designed to never be a phone at all. I turned a corner, hoping for something familiar, but the buildings had shifted. Storefronts had illegible names. A subway entrance appeared, and I rushed toward it thinking it was a way home. But the stairs only spiraled endlessly downward. I tried retracing my steps, but the stairs and streets had rearranged behind me. Suddenly I was back on the streets once more and walking past the bodega again, then I woke up.
